"Brother" (the crab) Passed Away

Ashlyn's First Pet Death!

This sure has turned her world upside down.

Bless her heart she just doesn't understand. She has had a really rough day. She keeps asking why he had to die. I try to let her answer he own questions...so she has come up with a few answers.
"we didn't give him a bath" - did you know that you are supposed to bathe them at least once a week? (we did that though!)
"daddy gave him too much food" - she saw that there was still food in there this morning, we think he died sometime last night, and the crabs would usually eat at night.
"a snake got into his tank" - no clue where she came up with this one!
"he was just old" - she had a hard time with this one, because "brother" was smaller than "hope" (her other crab) so she thought "brother" was younger.
Ashlyn said she wanted to bury "brother". So we put him in a little box she had decorated at VBS (it is blue with a cross on it). We lined it with tissues, and put him inside. This afternoon we decorated a really big rock we got out of our flower bed. This evening, Grandpa and her walked around the property to find a nice resting place for "brother." Tomorrow the burial will be first thing in the morning! We will be singing "Jesus Loves Me" and saying her nighttime prayer "Now a Lay Me" at the service!
