Ashlyn woke up early Sunday morning with a nasty stomach virus and a high fever. We tried to treat the symptoms, however, she couldn't hold any fluids down, (this included her medicine). We took her to the emergency room after calling her doctor for advice. He said to take her in for possible dehydration. They put in an IV and ran a whole battery of tests on her, from a chest x-ray, blood work, urinalysis, etc. Shortly after 1:00 all her results were in and she was dehydrated. So they admitted her into the hospital.
At about 2:00 am they finally got us into a room. She had fallen asleep on me shortly after 10pm. We had to wake her up when we got in the room so that her nurse could record her vitals. Bless her heart...she was miserable. It took a while for us to get her calmed back down and back to sleep. About every 2 hours the nurses would come in again and check vitals. They tried not to wake her up, however, it seemed every time they would. The next morning we saw her regular doctor. He said he wanted her to stay until she was fever free for 12 hours. He put her on a liquid diet. She remained on the IV fluid until we were discharged early Tuesday morning.
We are so thankful that everything is okay. It is tough to see your little one with all the machines hooked up to her. It is even harder to hold her down and try to explain to her that "these people are just here to make you feel better" as they are poking and prodding every inch of her.
Thank you to those of you who have kept her in your prayers.
